About this tool
Most online image converters upload your file to their server, convert it there, and make you wait. That is slow, and for anything private it is a real problem. This converter uses your browser's own canvas engine: the image is decoded, resized and re-encoded entirely on your device. Nothing is transmitted, and it works offline once the page has loaded.
Practical guidance: WebP gives the smallest files for web use at equal quality, JPG is the safe universal choice for photos, and PNG is lossless and keeps transparency but makes big files for photos. The max width field is the biggest file size lever of all. A 4000px photo shrunk to 1600px loses nothing visible on screens and drops most of its weight.
Questions
Is my image really not uploaded?
Really. The conversion runs in your browser using the canvas API. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
Why did my PNG get bigger as PNG?
Canvas re-encodes without the aggressive optimization your original may have had. PNG output shines for graphics with few colors; for photos, choose WebP or JPG.
Does transparency survive?
PNG and WebP keep transparency. JPG does not: transparent areas become white.
Is there a file size limit?
Only your device's memory. Typical photos are no problem. Extremely large images (100+ megapixels) may fail on phones.
