Every unit, and exactly what it equals

Eight categories, and each unit is its exact international definition rather than a rounded one, which is what the conversions above are built from. Pick a category name to load it into the converter.

Currency converter: live exchange rates, any pair

The 31 currencies the European Central Bank tracks, converted with live rates through the free Frankfurter API. Pick one to convert into it. Cryptocurrencies are not included.

How it works

How to use it

  1. Pick a mode. Units covers length, weight, temperature, volume, speed, area, digital storage and time. Currency covers the European Central Bank list.
  2. Type a value and choose the from and to units.
  3. The result updates as you type. Swap turns the pair around.

About the unit modes

A quick converter for the units you actually reach for: kilometres to miles, kilograms to pounds, Celsius to Fahrenheit, litres to gallons, and plenty more. Each unit is defined by its exact international value, so 1 inch is 2.54 cm and 1 mile is 1609.344 m, not a rounded approximation.

Temperature is handled separately with the proper Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin formulas, since those scales do not share a zero point. Everything happens in your browser: no ads, no sign-up, nothing uploaded.

About currency mode

Shopping abroad, splitting a trip bill, or just curious what a price is in your own money: this gives you the real rate, pulled live from the European Central Bank through the free Frankfurter API. Pick any two of the 31 currencies, type an amount, and it converts as you type. The rate and its date are always shown, so you know how fresh it is.

Only the currency codes are sent to look up the rate. The amount you enter never leaves your browser. These are reference rates for information, not a live trading or remittance quote.

Questions

How accurate are the conversions?

Each unit uses its exact international definition. 1 inch is 2.54 cm, 1 mile is 1609.344 m and 1 lb is 0.45359237 kg, so results are precise, then trimmed to a sensible number of digits for readability.

How is temperature converted?

Temperature cannot use a single multiplier because the scales have different zero points, so Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin are converted with their proper formulas rather than a factor.

Where do the exchange rates come from?

Rates are published by the European Central Bank and fetched live through the free Frankfurter API. They update on ECB business days, so the date shown is the most recent reference rate.

Which currencies are supported?

Over 30 major world currencies tracked by the European Central Bank, including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CAD, AUD and more. Cryptocurrencies are not included.

Does anything get uploaded?

Unit conversions run entirely in your browser with JavaScript, so that half works offline and none of your numbers are ever sent anywhere. Currency mode has to ask for a rate: only the two currency codes are sent to look it up, and the amount you type never leaves your browser.
